Staining on the outside is almost done and today I installed the pebble floor with thin-set. Now that was a bit of a job.
My best deal on pebbles was at Maison Bouclair, they had about a 2 by 3' square of 2" pebbles that I really liked for $25 so I bought one to try out and on another trip into town I bought a couple more. I thought I would buy a few every week. Well wont you know it they dont carry the same one any more. The one they have now is a bit different so I bought four more and worked it all out.
If I had to do it over again and bought the same big pieces of pebbles this is what I would do.....learn from me.
If I bought the same thing I would cut them up into one foot pieces, not square cause you dont want a definite line to show. If I had a choice then I would just buy a bag of peddles and install them as I go....just like a puzzle because even in the big piece some of them were just not aligned right.
For the drain....the floor by the way is already sloped to the drain but to make sure it is lower I used some flat pebbles that I had. It was something I ordered (one square foot for $10 included shipping) to see if that was what I wanted.
Anyway the flat pebbles were lower which is what I wanted and then filled the spaces in between with little stones from the dollar store tiny stones. You can see in the picture. I am pleased
I added a latex additive instead of water to my fortified thin-set that was applied to a sealed plywood base. Now to leave it dry till Friday when my carpenter comes to do the joists for the sauna deck, I will do the grouting, fun oh fun!. We are using our own cedar that Dwight cut with the saw mill.
