I can finally breath and talk about it.
Just before Christmas 2016 saw Dwight not feeling 100%, doctor was saying perhaps ulcers, IBS, things move slow and we became proactive with various diets on our own. His weight loss was noticeable and rapid.
In December a doctor replacing his regular doctor sent Dwight for an ultrasound, we got the results in a matter of days……the news was devastating. It revealed a mass in the head of his pancreas and lesions on his liver. When he got home from this procedure I noticed the jaundice in his eyes, they were a bright yellow.
In the following week leading up to Christmas he had blood works, MIR, CT scan, colonoscopy all done but because Christmas and New Years was upon us we would not get the results till Jan 3/17. Needless to say this was the worst time of our lives as we were trying to absorb what was happening. Dwight was dying at this time, I could see that. To see him at this very moment you would never know. His jaundice is finally almost gone with a bilirubin count at the moment of 29.
My son Josh and Sarah came with us for the results. Dwight diagnosis was inoperable stage 4 pancreatic with mets to half his liver, 3-6 months without treatment. Now we needed the liver biopsy to see which cancer it was. Some of the larger tumours were glowing indicating that it could possibly be a neuroendocrine tumour (NETS), the same tumour Steve Jobs had meaning there was a possibility of managing it for years.
The first line of attack we all decided was to first deal with the jaundice as Dwight was on deaths door and continuing to lose weight. He had a liver biopsy scheduled in a few weeks but something needed to be done now. He would go back in a few days to get an endoscopy in which they would put in a stent in his biliary duct to help drain the buildup of bile. At the same time they were able to successfully do two liver biopsies, one of which they asked him for for their research as it is not a common cancer.
He began two receptor drugs in Feb as well as many supplements and cannabis oil 3 times a day with another new diet. East Indian doctor, energy healer is all helping. I am happy to report that Dwight is steadily gaining weight and now up to 148 lbs, he should be 165. In May we get all the scans again to see if the cancer is stable, progressed or mysteriously shrinking or disappeared which is the miracle we are all hoping for.
We just are not ready for this to be happening to us, we have way too much fun!
