What a wonderful morning it was. I was anticipating the hatch of my turkeys and had a baby monitor set up by my bed and on day 27 I woke up to hear the first peeps...I was so excited, felt like a grandma :) I waited almost 24 hours before Bonnie finally left her nest. Out of the 12 eggs, eight hatched. I checked the eggs that were left and they were not good. At the moment they are 9 weeks old and getting very big.
We are at the house this year and decided not to rent it. Normally we are at the cabin for the summer. I wanted to be close to home, get some gardens started here and be near a hose. I have two raised gardens in canoes and pockets of gardens against the hill. One of the canoes is my salad and herb garden, I also have another raised garden with tomatoes and it is going to be a bumper crop. The plants are as tall as me now and just full of green tomatoes of all sizes. Chard and kale doing well.
Last week my daddy turkey died. He was lame for the last two months, not sure what happened to him and he lost his zest for life. Yesterday I replaced him with another male turkey poult that is a month older than mine. So it works out because now I have some new blood for the female turkeys.
We now have 2 laying chickens and will be getting 4 more soon.
