Anyhow, my puppy Arthur is really growing and doing well, I am so pleased with him. Monday we have our 4th puppy class, socializing and reteaching owners how to train their new pups. At the moment we are living at the yurt, its been about 3 weeks now, the house is booked for the summer. We will be at the cabin middle of July till end of August. Life here is not without its challenges. We are almost ready to stay settled in one place which would be the house, we can always escape to the back forty for a weekend anytime we want. Its just we are cheap and still have a few wants so the rentals are good for that and they keep us organized with the properties and it keeps me creative and Dwight busy as well. Dwight likes to be as idle as I:)
There are things we need to finish in the middle of the property. I am busy building a storage shed/closet/pantry/woodshed, then a garden shed at the garden. Dwight cuts the lumber with our saw mill and I build.
Today we trapped the damn groundhog at the garden. We set the animal trap and put some cantaloupe in it. It is so hard to have the right weather to grow cantaloupe and watermelon in Val Des Monts that when a groundhog munches on them it makes you pretty darn pissed. So far its a good year for growing them, cantaloupe that is.
Well my overwintered carrots and parsnips were not a success, something has been burrowing in them and they go to seed.
Beans are coming along although I had to plant them twice....maybe something eats them as they come up? I dont know, second batch is coming along nicely.
Asparagus crop in its 4th year doing well. I am using the 4' wide black weed cloth in between.
There will be a bumper crop of blueberries this year as well as gooseberries.
Raspberries and blackberries will be okay.
My giant pumpkin that I thought I had rescued did not make the move so I have to buy some more seeds, I now have 2 plants and we will see how they do. My pie pumpkins are doing great as are my yellow squash, Lebanese cumcumbers, actually all of the squashes. Cilantro is doing well too and not eaten yet by anything. I remember last year I was ready to harvest for a nice dinner with guests and something had munched on them first, grrrrrrrr
Today Dwight and I headed out to Owls Nest to fix the washing machine, it wont drain. I read up on a few tips on the internet. Yesterday I bought a new BBQ for the house because our renters could not get it past 350 and this is not the first time there was problems with the BBQ. Dwight had instructions on how to get the temperamental thing to work but I can never remember and if its temperamental then its time for a new one, enough is enough so I went out and bought one.
Our renters were not in so I did not go in to attempt to fix the washer so I assembled the BBQ on the deck, it took me almost 2 hours but it works and its great!
Our renters came home in the meantime and I attempted to take the front panel off the washing machine but I was stripping one of the screws so asked Dwight to stop by on his way home from work.
Well it did not get fixed last night, looked up some stuff on the internet and Dwight and I headed out this morning, Dwight got the front panel off and the drain hose was disconnected and low and behold we are five bucks richer and a broken comb was in the impeller. Everything is working and everyone is happy.
A few nights ago here in the yurt it got down to 11 degrees and damp so we put the wood stove on, it was so warm and cozy, we watched one of the downloaded movies we had on the pc....Forever After , a fun movie. We have loads of power here with our solar panel and 6 batteries.
We are in for 3 hot days....I wonder if that includes humidity....
