Well we officially cancelled the timberframe course. Seven people (including myself) signed up but we needed 8 and I was on the hook for any cancellations/no shows so we decided to pull the plug. Now what to do with all those logs I cut for the course? Well, I've decided to cut all the 16 foot and 20 foot 8x8's for the shed. I had thought perhaps we could try the course again in the fall or next spring but I just found out that Jason Gibson won't be doing the host-a-course again (I hope it wasn't me that put you off Jason). I guess I was meant to learn how to build timber frames on my own! The guy I bought the sawmill from used it to cut timber for his timber frame house and garage so I'm going to send him an email to see how he learnt.
I've cut two 16 foot timbers so far and it's been real easy. I used the extension for the first one but removed it for the second and just snugged the log up to the mill to get the full length cut. The cut timbers are heavy but I just jacked up the rollers when fininshed and rolled them off the mill bed onto the forks of the tractor and piled them on a temporary skid until I can store them later. Bonus is all the 1 inch boards I am cutting.
Once I get the looading platform cleaned off it's time to cut some 4x4 cedar posts for the railing for the sauna and then tons of 2x4's and 2x6's for sweetie to build a garden shed.
And then some lumber for the shed at Owls Nest and then raise another pole shelter at the trailhead, and then, and then, and then ...
