By Saturday we had enough sap collected and our first boil got us about 3 quarts of maple syrup. Lucy has a blog going here: http://www.lonewolfforest.com/making-maple-syrup.html
My job is to collect the syrup which I usually do twice a day, generally about 2PM and then just before dusk. I could wait until the end of the day but that's a lot of syrup to carry!
Lucy decided that she only wants to burn hardwood so I've been off during the day looking for standing deadwood. Lots of standing dead pine and poplar but I've managed to find a few maples that are bone dry. Perfect for a hot fire and a rolling boil.
