We had a sucessful gardening season this year with our raised gardens along the hillside. Lucy wants me to dig back as far as I can (until I hit bedrock) to give us more flat area for next year.
I hand dug the earth out of one canoe and moved it aside so I could get in with the backhoe. After digging a bit I turn around to remove debris (tree stumps, rocks) and to pull the earth down.
Up and down we go, getting higher and higher each time. The photos give you an idea of what it took me two days (about 4 hours a day) to do. The pics don't look that steep but the angle is quite frightening if you stop to think about it (so you don't). I've dug behind the chicken coop as far as I dare but I will have to move the coop in order to get further back.
A couple more feet and I just might be able to get up on the hill! Now where to put all that earth???
