Well we need wood for Owls Nest. We can stack 5/8 of a cord of firewood beside the stone fireplace at Owls Nest and generally we restack every seven to ten days. Instead of piling wood on the porch and beside the garage we are using our new leanto which holds about 5 cords when full. It's chockfull right now which means I won't have to make to many trips through the snow. Maybe while I can still drive on the back property I'll bring another three cords in and stack it out somewhere. We'll probably go through 8 cords this year. We have a new roof on and Lucy has started to insulate the basement so we should be burning less.
We also need wood for the yurt, how much depends on how often it gets rented. Our new shed has a firewood section which holds about a cord. It was full in the fall but is half emptied already. The yurt stove takes short pieces of firewood, no longer than 14 inches. This is great in that I don't have to be concerned about cutting short blocks, they go to the yurt, but I do have to make sure I do cut enough to last the winter. I think I have about a cord in my main pile but I am pretty sure I will be sort this winter. I guess I'll be sawing the longer pieces in half :)
We also need firewood for the cabin and hot tub. At the moment there is about half a cord at the cabin with another half stacked on the dock. The ice is thick enough to walk across but we'll wait until there is enough snow to drive the ATV and trailer across with a load. That probably is any day now. Once I can cross safely I'll fill the woodshed at the cabin which will take 4+ cords easily. We also need finely split firewood for the hot tub. Lucy split about a half cord and we probably will need another half before the winter is through.
Between Owls Nest and the cabin What's left of the main stack of firewood will be gone. Usually I want to have 2 years worth of wood cut and stacked but this year I hope it is enough. Time to start cutting soon!
