A private off-grid log cabin in the Gatineau Hills Tucked deep in the forest on 220 private acres in Val-des-Monts, Quebec, Lone Wolf Cabin is a one-of-a-kind off-grid getaway for two adults. Just 30 minutes from downtown Ottawa, it feels like another world: a quiet little lake, a hand-built log cabin, a wood-fired cedar soaking tub, a real log sauna, and the kind of stillness you only find in the woods. Often described as “a hidden gem,” this 600-square-foot cabin was built from white pine logs cut right on the property. It sits at the edge of a small private lake (you are the only ones), surrounded by forest, trails, wildlife, and sky.
This is a place for slowing down: morning coffee on the deck, paddling across the lake, reading by the wood stove, soaking under the stars, and falling asleep in the loft with the trees all around you. The cabin is cozy, rustic, and thoughtfully equipped.
The main living area has a wood stove, couch, pine table and chairs, books, games, puzzles, a Bluetooth speaker, and lots of character. A steep ladder-style staircase leads to the upstairs loft, where you’ll find a queen bed with linens provided, pine floors, skylight, cathedral ceiling, windows, a desk, armoire, small library and chest of drawers. There is also an upstairs deck with outdoor steps that leads straight to the outhouse. The kitchen includes a propane stove and oven, solar fridge with small freezer, pots and pans, cutlery, coffee grinder, stovetop espresso maker, drip coffee setup, basic pantry items, and handmade pottery dishes. In summer, there is gravity-fed cold water at the sink. Drinking water is filtered through a Berkey system, and in winter or dry periods, fresh well water is provided.
Wood-Fired Soaking Tub & Log Sauna
Just steps from the cabin is a two-person wood-fired cedar soaking tub. In winter, it is filled with fresh spring water and heated for your arrival when conditions allow. In summer, it is filled with lake water for you to heat to your liking. Up the hill is a beautiful wood-fired log sauna with generous benches, a large deck, twig railing, and a view over the lake. It is rustic, peaceful, and very special.
Please note: because this is an off-grid wilderness property, weather and seasonal conditions can affect whether the hot tub is available, especially during freeze-up, thaw, and unpredictable winter weather. The Lake & Property The cabin sits on a very small, quiet lake with pike, perch, and catfish.
Canoes, a kayak, and a stand-up paddleboard are available for guests. You can paddle, fish, sit by the water, enjoy a campfire, hike the developing trails, snowshoe in winter, or simply disappear into the quiet. It is a real Canadian cabin experience: private, rustic, romantic, and a little bit adventurous, very spa like.
Getting there In summer, guests meet at the trailhead on our gated 220-acre property. We bring your gear and yourselves in by UTV, then I take your gear 300 feet across the lake to the cabin in a canoe and you would take your own. In winter, guests park at our home, about 1.5 km away, and we bring you and your gear in by snowmobile and sled along a packed trail through the woods. During freeze-up and thaw, access may change. Sometimes we use the deer trail around the lake, which includes a narrow bridge and a short forest walk. We will let you know what to expect before your stay.
Pets Well-behaved pets are welcome if they are treated with flea prevention and cleaned up after. This helps us keep the cabin pet-friendly for future guests.

3 nights: $800
Additional nights up to one week: $200 per night

If it is a true "Getaway that you want" and dont want to bother leaving it the way you found it which includes draining and cleaning the hot tub you can pay an extra $75 cleaning fee, this needs to be booked ahead of time.
