I've got a good section cleared the best I can with the backhoe and now to get the remaining dirt off. Start with a shovel and scrape the loose earth down and dig out the earth stuck in cracks and crevices. Then take a push broom and push what's left down the rock to the bottom. I found I could get two tractor buckets full of earth cleaning a section of rock. I tried using the pressure washer to wash the earth down but it there was just too much earth to move and a lot of it sprayed into the air (I was covered with mud)!
I was able to scrape some of the good earth off and put to one side. Lucy screened the good soil, taking out the rocks and roots. It went quite fast. She was screening as fast as I could shovel.
I exposed a lot of rock but when I got to the turkey coop I hit a pocket of sand that goes quite a way back. I've stopped for now as I've run out of brush as fill over the side. I'm piling the earth to one side for when I cut more trees (which is never long around here). There is enough rock exposed for Lucy to decide how and where she wants to put her canoes and rowboat as raised gardens. We've been lucky with the good weather so far.
